SUPPLY LIST:  Please bring a large assortment of different weights and finishes of threads.  I will bring 8 weight threads to couch onto the project.  It is a fun class and everyone will be successful, I promise.

Come Join the fun of turning a single Charm Pack into three (3) cute bags.  It's like magic!   The class will work on a single bag, but the Charm Pack would be enough for two more bags to make on your own.   If you aren't sure, and don't want to buy a Charm Pack, just bring 12  Squares (5" squares)  The supply list below is to make ONE bag which will be done in class.

12  5" squares.  (1 charm pack will make 3 bags.) Can use that or cut your own 5" squares.

2024 - AccuQuilt Beginning Class 🆕 1 Class

SKILL LEVEL:    Beginner

Accuquilt is a valuable time-saving tool that will improve your cutting of pieces, and intricate applique.  You can cut precise strips for borders, sashing, and binding, and cut pieces that sew without 'dog ears' or the need for 'squaring up'.  This class teaches the basic of machine operation, safety, and fabric requirements.  We will cut a number of samples to give you experience with the manual and the electric cutters.  

SUPPLY LIST:   Bring Heat N Bond lite and 12" of fabric for practice cutting of appliques and pieces.

SKILL LEVEL:  Must have completed the Introduction to AccuQuilt session.  Beginner and above sewing skills.

UPDATE:  THIS CLASS WILL BE HELD IN THE GREEN ROOM ADJACENT TO THE SEWING ROOM -- WE CAN ACCEPT UP TO 15 STUDENTS!

This class is a detailed lecture of  HOW and WHY you would want to use one or more of the AccuQuilt Qube systems we have.  We will look at Qube resources available, and samples of patterns.  It will NOT include cutting with the dies, as that technique is taught in the beginning sessions.

SUPPLY LIST:

Bring pen or pencil and notepad to take notes.

Scrap fabrics to try out cutting with the Qubes, including some fabric that has been pre-fused with Heat N Bond, if you want practice for applique.

Has it been a while since you have sewed?  Are your skills a little rusty?  If so, then join us in this refresher course.  We will review basic sewing skills and then assemble a project that you will get to take home with you.  You will need to bring your sewing kit with you.  All other supplies will be provided.

These projects are for Basic Sewing Students only.

Most items will be supplied by the club.  Any supplies needed by the students will be announced monthly.

Please do not enroll if you have been a member of the Sewing Club for 2 years or you are an experienced sew'er.

2024 - Charity SIG Meeting & Sew-A-Thon 11 Meeting

Are your cupboards filled with quilts? Is your stash bursting the "seams" of your house?  Would you like to meet new SCA friends?  If you can answer yes to any of these questions, this is the group for you!  The Charity Group's purpose is to keep us active utilizing our talents and most importantly giving back to our community by making quilts for charitable organizations. 

We will host a brief meeting with a workshop to follow that will include sandwiching quilts, tying quilts and machine quilting.

This class teaches making a simple block from a 10" square and a 5" square.   You can purchase a Layer Cake, and cut some of the fabric for the 5"squares, or you can purchase a Layer Cake for the Feature Fabric, and a 5" Charm Pack in a coordinating color, for the alternate fabric.

Create a beautiful wall Hanging from Christmas Design fabric and a solid background. The project is made from 3" squares. and 3" strips.   Each row is a combination of strip pieces and 3" squares to be sewn together. The rows sewn together make the tree!

This class will go over the Sewing Club rules, room use and training on the Pfaff 635 sewing machine.

This class is a step by step creating of a crazy quilt patch, cutting the purse shape, and then added beaded work to the bottom of the purse.

NOTE:  Two images of the quilt are shown below.  The designer of this pattern's designer is Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabrics.  She used a dark sashing with light cornerstone and two dark borders to make a dramatic look to the quilt. If  you prefer a more informal setting style, the 2nd option provides a light colored sashing and cornerstones, and no border.  The choice is YOURS - with or without borders - light or dark sashing.

Come join the fun as Ev Dahl steps us through the process of creating a beautiful quilt made from 10" squares!

2024 - Fold and Stitch Wreath 🆕 1 Class

SKILL LEVEL:  Intermediate - due to mutiple materials, and many steps to the project

This class uses mutiple sewing steps to create a beautiful wreath from fabric, foam and fusible web. The wreath can be used as a centerpiece, or a traditional hanging wreath, as shown below in the pictures. This class requires pre-cutting of some fabrics and the foam prior to the class.  The in-room class will be primarily constructing the wreath from the cut materials, and sewing the pieces together.

2024 - Garment Sewing Class 11 Meeting

This class meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month (unless there is a conflict-check the calendar to be sure) for garment sewing.  Sherry Eames facilitates the group.  If you have a project you are working on and need help or just need a dedicated time to work on it, this is the group for you

REQUIREMENTS: Bring your own projects to work on.  This is not a formal teaching class.  We do share ideas and help each other on your own project.

Whether you enjoy English Paper Piecing (hexies), wool applique, hand applique, or embroidery, this is the group for you.  We will sit and sew and share our projects and expertise.  Feel free to join us with any hand sewing you have-binding, hemming, you name it.

We will be making a 10"x7"x7" Insulated Lunchbox. 

SUPPLY LIST:  The Club will supply the Zipper, Strapping & insulated batting.

Members Will need to bring interior and exterior fabrics and sewing kit with thread.  Approximate 1 yard, exact amounts will be sent in a separate email.

2024 - Introduction to Accuquilt 🆕 3 Class

SKILL LEVEL:   All Levels   Attendance at an Introductory Class is required to be able to use the AccuQuilt system.

This class introduces the students to the AccuQuilt Cutting System owned by the Club.    We will cover the basics of the four-patch system, fabric preparation,  correct placement, use of dies, and tips and techniques for creating accurate cuts using cotton fabric, and fused fabric, as well as other materials.  We will practice using the a strip die, an applique die, and a geometric die.  By the end of the class, students should feel comfortable in how to find the dies they wish to use, how to turn on, use and secure the machine and dies when done.

SUPPLIES:

Pen or Pencil and Notepad for Note Taking

Scraps of Fabric to practice, including some that are backed with Heat N Bond - if you wish to do an applique.  If you don't have Heat N Bond, I will supply some pre-fused fabrics.

Rotary Cutter for trimming scrap pieces.

 

2024 - Jean Tote Bag with Prairie Points 🆕 1 Class

Student will learn how to construct a bag from denim fabric, with Prairie Point decorations.  Detailed instructions for the Prairie Point will be part of the class.

SUPPLY LIST: 

1.  Denim or Jean Sewing Machine Needle

2.  One pair of old denim jeans (If you don't care if denim matches -- I have jean pieces to provide)

3.  Accent prints -- 7 different  (will cut two each color into 4" squares for prairie points)  -- I also have this

4.  1/2 yard material for handles and pocket flaps 

5.  1/2 yard material for lining the inside of the bag

6.  Denim or blue thread to match denim color

7.  Rotary cutter and sewing kit

I will be in the sewing room on Friday Oct 18 from noon to 4 pm if you would like to come choose denim pockets, material, and accent pieces of material for your project.  Club has a variety of buttons for you to use .

2024 - Love Chains Valentine Table Runner 1 Class

SKILL LEVEL:   Intermediate             This Session is Sponsored by the Loose Threads Group.   

Class Description:  This event is sponsored by Loose Threads.  Join instructors Donna Lyttle and Georgia Tobey in making a Valentine Table Runner with different size hearts! Everyone will make an 8 1/2 inch block that will be included in a drawing.  Winners will receive 5 blocks to make their own table runner.  It's possible that we'll have enough blocks for 3 or 4 winners.

Supplies:  Bring your own personal sewing kit.  Pattern and fabric will be provided

2024 - Machine Applique Class 12 Meeting

SKILL LEVEL:  Beginner / Intermediate

The Machine Applique Group will be making Mug Rugs each month.  For November, you can choose between scattered leaves or a turkey, or both!

We plan on having a small project each month.  We will start the group with a short Machine Applique review/tutorial.  If you have your own project, you are welcome to work on that, too

RECOMMENDED SUPPLY LIST for NOVEMBER Leaves or Turkey: 

  • Two 7x10 pieces of fabric – one for background and one for the backing
  • Fabric for the desired designs 
  • Neutral sewing thread to stitch front and back together
  • Thread for decorative stitching around outside, if desired
  • Microtex Needle (optional)
  • Thread for applique-your choice 
  • Sharp cutting scissors
  • Paper-backed fusible web, such as AppliKay Wonder or Heat N Bond Lite
  • Basic sewing supplies

The Club will provide:

  • One 7x10 piece of fusible fleece

 

2024 - Machine Binding Tips and Techniques 🆕 3 Class

This class will teach ways to complete your binding partially or completely by machine. Emphasis is on quilt binding, but the techniques can be used on anything that needs to be bound.

2024 - My Way Class - Water Soluable Free Motion 🆕 1 Class

SKILL LEVEL:  Open to all abilities as long as you have finished the beginners class.

Learn how to use water soluble interfacing in conjunction with free motion. This is a fun class using 40 wt. threads (shiny embroidery weight threads).  Hoops and interfacing will be supplied for class use. 

SUPPLIES:

Please bring an assortment of thread, sewing kit and multiple empty bobbins.
 

 

2024 - My Way Class --- 9 degree Wedge Ruler Class 🆕 4 Class

Learn how to Use a new ruler - the 9 degree Wedge Ruler. All sewing is just straight stitiching.

 An information class will be scheduled prior to the actual class.

SUPPLY LIST:   

 1. Assorted fabrics cut width of fabric.  These fabrics will be used to cut the wedges that comprise the design.

2. Your own rotary cutter with a NEW BLADE, as we will be cutting a lot of fabric wedges.

 

2024 - Octagon Placemats 🆕 2 Class

We will make Octagon shaped placemats using a variety of coordinated fabrics.  

FEE:    A Pattern is required, and the fee is $10.00, payable to Cheryl at the time of the class.

SUPPLY LIST:

4 Placemats  =  Feature Fabric 2/3 yard;     Coordinating Fabric  1/2 yard;    Backing and Batting 1 yard

6 Placemats  =  Feature Fabric 1 1/8 yard;   Coordinating Fabric  5/8 yard;   Backing and Batting 1 1/3

For EACH placemat you will need:

Feature Fabric - 1  10-inch square + 4 Strips measuring 3" x 8 1/2"

Coordinating Fabric - 4 strips measuring 3 x 8 1/2"

Learn to paper-piece with this easy Christmas tree project.   Participants will learn basic paper-piecing, and have the choice of two projects (wall-hanging or table runner) to complete.

You must sign up for both sessions. Session 1 will focus on the paper piecing, and Session 2 will be for construction for the table-runner or wall-hanging.

2024 - Poinsettia Table Runner - 2 Part Class 🆕 2 Class

SKILL LEVEL: Advanced

Class Sessions:   This is a 2 part Class, so you must register for BOTH sessions: July 10th at 9am - 12 noon  and July 17th at 9am to 12 noon

Come and make a beautiful QUILT AS YOU GO stained glass Table Runner.  Learn a new technique.  We will be sewing with a double needle!  Instructors Donna Lyttle and Georgia Tobey will lead you every step of the process.  Runner is approximately 60 inches long and when completed it has the effect of stained glass. There will be PRE_CLASS WORK!

Join us in the sewing room after our monthly business meeting to sew blocks, put together quilt tops and socialize.

2024 - Quilters for Vets - Arlington Room 7 Meeting

This meeting is the monthly meeting for the Quilts for Veterans group. 

For 2024 the meeting will be in the Arlington Room in the Anthem center, except for January, November & December, which will be in the Greene Room in the Anthem Center. 

2024 - Quilting 101 - Room Closed 12 Class

This 6-week class is for beginning quilters.  You need to be able to attend all 6 consecutive weekly classes.  We'll talk about fabric and color at the first session and will give out a supply list at that time.  We will complete different blocks and make a table runner.  Donna Lyttle and Georgia Tobey will set you on the road to being an accomplished quilter.  

PREREQUISITES:   You must have completed Machine Orientation & Basic Sewing prior to these sessions.

BE SURE TO ENROLL IN ALL SIX SESSIONS.  Enrollment is individual to each session.

2024 - Roly Poly Class 🆕 2 Class

This is a 2 part Class.  Class #1 will be the sewing component to build the Roly Poly.  Class #2 is the actual construction (gluing) of the fabric to the mail tube, ribbon, etc., to complete the project.  YOU MUST SIGN UP FOR BOTH CLASSES, you cannot attend the 2nd class, without attending  Class #1.

Join us making a quick and easy project to hold projects securely from home to class and back. You can use your Roly Poly to encase an unfinished quilt, or blocks, or pieces of blocks! 

FEE:  $2.00 for a 24" Mail Tube  or  $2.50 for a 30" Mail tube.  Linda Bailey will bring both sizes to the first meeting, select your favorite size, and pay Linda.

This all day Loose Threads event will compress the fun and activities of a traditional retreat into a 6-hour event!  Lunch will be served, but the individual will need to pay for their lunch.  Details to follow.

Bring your own sewing machine, supplies and project.   An additional project will be provided by Loose Threads which can be sewn during the retreat or later.

A certified sewing machine tech will come to your home to CLEAN your machine.  This is NOT A REPAIR service.  The price for regular domestic machines is normally $125 but we have negotiated a special price of $90/per machine.   Longarm machines, multi-needle machines and Sergers are $125.

FEE:  $90 per domestic sewing machine     $125 per Longarm, Serger, or multi-needle machines.

2 Make and model of your machine - and any other pertinent information regarding the machine

3. Indicate if you have a morning or afternoon preference.  Hinde will group the houses geographically and send you an approximate time.

2024 - Twisted Star Paper Pieced Quilt - 2 Part Class 🆕 2 Class

SKILL LEVEL:  Intermediate and Advanced Only

This class will teach students foundation paper piecing basics, resulting in an 8x8 inch block.  They can create a scrappy block or planned depending on their preferences.  Students will have the opportunity to create four of these blocks creating a small wall hanging.

Learn how to wrap clothesline with fabric and zig zag into coasters, bowls and more.  During the class, the Instructor will provide a segment of already wrapped clothesline as a sample for each student.   The Club will provide the clothesline and fabric for wrapping.

SUPPLY LIST:

Tacky glue - if you have it.  Don't purchase specifically for the class, as the amount used is small, and the Instructor will share her glue with anyone who doesn't have tacky glue (Like Aileen's Tacky Glue)

Stiletto or pointed object to help tuck in the ends of fabric (optional)

The Leadership Team cordially invites you to a special event honoring all the Sewing and Quilting Club instructors and SIG Coordinators on Wednesday, November 6th at 12:00pm at Liberty Center.

This Appreciation Lunch is our way of saying Thank You for everything you do for the Sewing and Quilting Club, and it is our hope you will attend. We will be serving lunch from Kneaders at 12:00pm. After lunch, we want to hear any ideas you may have for next year.

Bargello Placemats 0 Class

Learn Bargello techniques and make a set of 4 placemats. This will take 2 sessions. 

Make sure to sign up for both sessions, July 6 & 13. 

Skill Level - Intermediate and above. 

Supplies Needed:

The Backing fabric:  For 4 placemats:   1 1/4 yards.

The Binding fabric:   One yard

There are three options for the top:

1. You can use a jelly roll if you desire.  You will need  24 strips.

2. You can use 8 different colors.   You will need 1/4 yard of each of the 8 colors.

3. You can use 12 different colors.

No matter what option you choose, you will need to have a combination of light, medium and dark hues.

• Avoid  choosing fabrics that are too close in color.  If there is one color that is a "maverick" that is fine.  It will show up as an accent.

• Pick fabrics that are a varity of textures, plain colors will show your flaws!

Spray starch if desired.

We will be sewing a Bowl Cozy.  We have a layer cake and batting that can be used.

Everyone needs to bring their sewing kit.

If you want to make your Bowl Cozy to match your color scheme you will need to bring the following:

2 10"x10" 100% cotton material squares (you can do 12"x12" if you want a bigger size)

2 10"x10" batting squares, must be 100% cotton or "Wrap and Zap"

100% cotton thread to match your material

Class participants will have the option to share and receive small pieces of fabrics to enhance their projects.

* Three or four blocks – for larger wall hangings, table runners,
table toppers, or bed runners
* 12 block sets – for a full quilt, or a 12-month display

Garden Path Quilt 🆕 0 Class

The Garden Path Quilt pattern creates a laptop quilt (44x53), and focuses on sewing accurate cornerstones and setting rectangles. 

Participants can utilize a charm pack or coordinating 5" squares. 

Participants should register by September 6.

Techniques will be taught in a three hour class with a follow up session for those needing additional assistance. 

Garment Sewing Group 1 Meeting

This group meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month (unless there is a conflict-check the calendar to be sure) for garment sewing. 

Sherry Eames facilitates the group.  If you have a project you are working on and need help or just need a dedicated time to work on it, this is the group for you.

The name of the jacket pattern is “Cutting Edge Jacket” IJ977CR. Cane be found on Amazon or etsy or ebay. Approx. $10.00. You need denim jeans. I used three or four pair. One spool of heavy topstitch thread. Wal-mart or hobby lobby. One large snap Bring y our own cutting tool shears or a rotary cutter with a fresh blade you will be cutting through heavier fabric.

Loose Threads-Road Rally 0 Meeting

By popular demand, another Road Rally is being planned for Monday, October 10, 2022. The theme for this road rally is "On the Road Again." The adventure begins in the parking lot at Sun City Anthem Center at 10:00 a.m. You will be given clues to solve. These clues will take you to volunteer homes where you will pick up bags of fabric to make a table runner. There is a surprise stop! Before you meet back at the Courtyard at Independence Center, you will have a clue that involves taking a picture. Showing this picture will allow you to enter the Courtyard for refreshments, pick up directions for the table runner, and purchase (at a very reasonable cost) extra fabric for sashing or borders. There is no limit to the number of people who can attend this road rally. Please sign up and enjoy a little road trip with your friends.
Carpooling is being encouraged.

Quilters Corner Group - Part 2 2 Class

JUNE 2nd SESSION will be held in the  Greene Room and is the introductory session. 

Quilters Corner class was formed to provide a place for Sewing and Quilting Club (SAQ) members that are new to quilting to make quilts.

•    The group will meet monthly in the SCA Sewing and Quilting room.
•    The class is open to new members that have completed Quilting 101, have graduated from Basic Sewing (if applicable) or have been in the SAQ club for 3 years.
•    The members must be new to quilting.
•    The members are responsible for all the supplies needed for the construction of the quilt.
•    Projects will be decided upon by the instructors with consensus from the class members.
•    Each project will take up to six months.  You must sign up for all six sessions.
•    Projects will be scheduled twice a year (Jan-Jun and Jul-Dec)
•    The class must have a minimum of 8 members.
•    Discussion will include how to choose patterns and material, methods to piecing, binding techniques, and general questions on quilting.
